It's yet another example of the brilliant way Aiko infuses topics of heartache and insecurity with cheeky style and a graceful sense of humor.
While her date does everything to please her and looks out for her best interests throughout, Aiko won't let the poor guy win. But this time, Aiko, who takes on a variety of different personaes-skateboarding flower child whip-wielding dominatrix and, my personal favorite, Cheetos-munching, Tupac-loving, wine snob-is the one playing games. The singer's latest, "Spotless Mind," depicts a confident and independent Aiko (a far cry from the sad sack who made those angry PB&Js in her nightgown) in the throes of yet another one-sided relationship. But the 26-year-old R&B breakout, who just nabbed three Grammy award nominations-best R&B song, "The Worst " best urban contemporary album, Sail Out and best rap/sung collaboration, "Black Majik" (with Common)-seems to have come into her own. Last August, when we shot Jhené Aiko in the cutest, classic-with-an-edge fall 2014 looks, she told us that she ascribes to a "nothing that stands out too much" style mantra.
